Gatehouse Media, which owns the Pine Bluff Commercial, has dismissed the newspaper's publisher and editor, Byron Tate, and replaced him with Ed Graves, a former executive at USA Weekend, the Commercial reports. Graves will be the newspaper's first African-American publisher.

Graves also replaces Shane Allen of the White Hall Journal and will hold the title senior group publisher.

In an interview with Arkansas Business, former editor Tate is quoted as saying that Tate's Grave's hiring "is cool and historic, overdue,” especially because Pine Bluff's population is now majority African-American.
