Esquire's Charles Pierce was on hand for Sen. Tom Cotton's appearance today before the South Carolina Republican National Convention delegation, an appearance that he read more as an introduction of Cotton as a future presidential candidate than an endorsement of Donald Trump.

It is not a flattering account of the junior senator from Arkansas, though Pierce does suggest Cotton's father sounds like a worthy candidate.

"I'm sure," Cotton told the crowd, "that we're all looking forward to a great Republican victory in November."

A Great Republican Victory In November could mean almost any damn thing, from the presidency, to maintaining their congressional majorities, to seizing control of a zoning board in Burleigh County, North Dakota. Tom Cotton realizes this as well as anybody does. A Great Republican Victory In November doesn't necessarily include handing He, Trump the nuclear codes, so A Great Republican Victory In November could very well mean that the party is looking for another presidential candidate for 2020. Like, say, Tom Cotton of Arkansas. This is going to be a marvelous week to watch people hedge their bets.
Cotton also spoke to the Ohio delegation. He said Hillary Clinton was running for president so she could pardon herself.
