Tom Cotton flat on his big night

A reader sends this arch but telling comment on Sen. Tom Cotton's Republican National Convention speech:

I was unaware he served in Iraq and Afghanistan. So glad to learn that, but I missed the part about Donald Trump.
That about gets it. Flat, boilerplate remarks, mostly the familiar stuff about himself and family with requisite throwdowns on Hillary Clinton. Has anybody else noticed how rarely Tom Cotton utters the words "Donald Trump." Could it perhaps be because he fears future clips of a speech tying Trump to him like a millstone?

The Washington Post's Chris Cilizza — in the Beltway group Cotton has tried to cultivate — remarked that Cotton had a "little bit of a charisma deficit." David Ramsey observed on Twitter that he had more charisma than Clint Eastwood's chair. I'll give him that much  too.
