Gov. Asa Hutchinson has named Ann Clemmer, a former Republican legislator, as interim director of the state Department of Higher Education after Director Brett Powell leaves July 29 to take a job at Henderson State (not OBU, as said originally.)

Clemmer, a former political science faculty member at UALR, has been working at ADHE in a $108,000 job as senior associate director of academic affairs. She made an unsuccessful GOP race for Congress in 2014.

The Higher Education Coordinating Board is conducting a search to fill the director's position, and Clemmer will serve until a director is named.
