TRUMP-ETER: Gilbert Baker..
Perfect. An e-mail currently circulating says Gilbert Baker
will be one of the "main points of contact" between the Donald Trump campaign
and the Arkansas Republican convention
delegation at the meeting in Cleveland in mid-July.
"Our job is to facilitate communication between the Arkansas delegation and the campaign," the e-mail says.
CORRECTION: I wrote originally that the note was from Baker and Sara Jo Reynolds. It's actually from Bud Cummins, Trump's leader in Arkansas, on behalf of him and Baker.
Gilbert knows how to facilitate — particularly when it comes to shipments of money to judicial candidates.
And he's also willing to change the dates on checks to Justice Rhonda Wood
as need be to avoid any appearance — if not alter the fact — that campaign contribution checks were cut before they legally could be contributed to a candidate.
Baker is only under investigation by the FBI for his role in Mike Maggio's reduction of a jury verdict against a nursing home in Faulkner County. He hasn't been convicted of anything, like, say, Trump's good friend Mike Tyson, once reported as a potential convention speaker.
Who'd have such poor judgment to put Baker in a high visibility role at the Republican National Convention? Who else but Bud Cummins
, the former U.S. attorney and failed congressional candidate whose private practice lately has included representing one Gilbert Ray Baker in his entanglement in the Maggio matter.
Cummins is the chief delegation whip and Baker the deputy delegation whip according to the email.
