A House committee today approved legislation by Rep. Steve Womack
of Rogers intended to throw up an obstacle to the Clean Line project
to move wind-generated industry across the country, including through Arkansas.
The Sierra Club's Glen Hooks
criticized the legislation for changing a permitting process on a project in the works since 2010. Hooks said the Clean Line project will help shut down polluting power plants, improve air quality and create jobs to produce clean wind energy.
That's not only bad for our state's air and economy—it's blatantly unfair to the company.
Womack's legislation, supported by other Arkansas Republicans, gives the states the ability to reject an electric transmission project before the federal government can exercise eminent domain.
