Special Judge David Laser this week signed an order extending until June 27 a response from plaintiffs to defense motions to dismiss the lawsuit alleging that then-Judge Mike Maggio took a bribe to reduce a verdict in a nursing home damage suit.
Michael Morton, owner of the nursing home that benefitted from a $4.2 million verdict reduction by Maggio, and Gilbert Baker, the former Republican senator who’d arranged campaign contrbutions from Morton to Maggio, have asked that the case be dismissed. The suit was filed by the estate of Martha Bull, the woman who died in a Greenbrier nursing home after employees failed to follow a doctor’s order for hospitalization. Maggio has been dismissed from the suit.
For “good cause” and on agreement of the parties, Laster postponed the deadline for response. It had been due Monday.
