U.S. Supreme Court won't delay pollution-reduction rule

The U.S. Supreme Court today refused a request from 20 states, including Arkansas, to block implementation of a federal rule aimed at reducing pollution from mercury and other emissions from coal-fired power plants.

The Supreme Court left in place a lower court's ruling that allowed the rule to be implemented, though it is being revised.

Unlike past attorney general actions, current Attorney General Leslie Rutledge has most often worked for utility and corporate interests, particularly coal miners, and against environmental controls.
