TUESDAY EVENING

California is yet to come but a big win in New Jersey and leads in New Mexico, South Dakota and Montana contributed to a jubilant rally to cheer what is now certain: Hillary Clinton will be the first woman to lead a major party presidential ticket.

Will Bernie Sanders’ backers join hands?  Or will they join Donald Trump or stay home (also a vote for Trump)?

UPDATE WEDNESDAY MORNING: And she handily won California, though Montana ended up a Sanders win. 

Clinton led California by some 14 points, though late mail ballots are still to be counted. Bernie Sanders seems in no mood to give up the battle. Politico has a widely discussed examination of the tumult inside the Sanders campaign that depicts a bitter Sanders holding onto hope that Clinton will be indicted before the Democratic National Convention.
