REZONING DENIED: For two houses at corner facing Cantrell Road.
The Little Rock Planning Commission
yesterday solidly rejected a proposal to rezone residential property at the northwest corner of Cantrell and University
for a sitdown restaurant.
The vote on both a change in the land use plan and zoning
(now residential) was 0-9, with one absence and one recusal. The property owners may appeal to the City Board.
I'd reported earlier neighborhood opposition to the plan
, presented on behalf of a developer by a law firm. No information was provided about what type of restaurant was planned, but the proponents noted the zoning sought wouldn't allow a fast-food restaurant with drive through window, only a sitdown restaurant.
The city staff opposed the rezoning. But both staff and unanimous Commission opposition didn't stop the City Board from approving a rezoning for land immediately to the north along University, now home to a branch bank.
