The coalition formed to push for restoration of local control of Little Rock schools is urging supporters to attend the state Board of Education meeting at 10 a.m. Thursday at which Education Commissioner Johnny Key is expected to make a rare public appearance.

Since a series of poor judgments and bad publicity, Key has been scarce, with an interview with a friendly Republican writer about his only substantive appearance.

The group, #StandUp4LR wants to ask Key about his waiver of a deadline for a failing charter school to apply to expand move to an upscale part of town. It should ask about how that school has been working on a new facility for months without approval. It wants to hear from him about our report of LISA Academy omitting black neighborhoods from recruiting mail. Then there's his brutal firing of Baker Kurrus for raising questions about charter school expansions. Said a notice of the meeting:

They are resegregating Little Rock with a rigged process. We must ‪#‎StandUp4LR‬! Come and voice your concerns about the future of public education in Arkansas. ...

It's time to give Little Rock schools back to the residents who live here. The state has proven unfit to lead our schools with consistent decisions detrimental to our children.
