Wrapping up the legislature

The budget session of the legislature will officially end Monday, though the final votes on legislation were completed this morning. Members will be allowed to wear jeans Monday for a $20 contribution to the state's Baby Sharon fund to pay for emergency medical expenses for children.

Final action including moving $50 million into the general improvement fund, part of the action aiming toward a special session in mid-May on providing money for highway construction. Gov. Asa Hutchinson wants to do it with surplus and future transfers of money now going to other agencies. The final omnibus budget bill also transfers more than $2.2 million won in lawsuit settlements with the state to construction of a veterans home in North Little Rock.
