Correct me if I’m wrong, but I read this editorial in today’s Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, the state’s largest newspaper, as a call to end the death penalty. Among other statements:
Why have the state put anyone to death? Doing away with the whole institution would avoid any risk of the state’s making a fatal mistake and becoming an accessory to homicide.
I long ago stopped believing newspaper editorials — in any newspaper — have much influence on public policy.
