Safer wet than dry? It depends who you ask.

Familiar story, first reported in The Courier in Russellville, from past wet-dry battles: The Conway County Legal Beverage Association (liquor stores in Conway County) is paying for a campaign to fight an effort to have an election in nearby Johnson County to legalize alcohol sales.

The same group spent even more to successfully fight a wet drive in Faulkner County two years ago.

Business is business. The fewer competitors the better. But the brass of this anti-wet campaign is worth a note. The committee fighting alcohol sales in Johnson County is titled, "Stand Strong, Stay Dry, Be Safe."

Does that mean Conway County is unsafe?

CORRECTION: I originally wrote incorrectly that Johnson was a "neighbor" to Conway County. Dry Pope lies between. But Russellville would be a prize market.
