The Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts has announced a gift of $50,000 from the family of the late Google executive Dan Fredinburg to support a "creativity and innovation" project at the school.

Fredinburg, a 1999 graduate of ASMSA who grew up in Norfork, was killed last year in an earthquake-triggered avalanche while climbing Mount Everest. He was head of privacy at Google X, a research arm of Google.

Full story on the gift and ASMSA project here.

The release said of the innovation project, which will include a lab named for Fredinburg:

The new facility will provide spaces that allow ASMSA to embrace its fine and digital arts mission, facilitate advanced opportunities in computer science, cultivate entrepreneurial and “maker” skills among students, and provide community and common spaces for students that will promote academic success.
