Architect Tom Fennell has drawn up a third concept for converting Interstate 30 to a boulevard. He was to present it this morning to the Coalition of Little Rock Neighborhoods.
He said it includes changes recommended by the public and the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department. I will post more on the plan when I can talk to Fennell, but the graphic above shows a park and pedestrian underpass at Clinton Avenue, bridges with green buffers over Interstate 30 at Third, Fourth, Fifth and Sixth and the interstate going under a deck park similar to the Klyde Warren Park in Dallas.

The plan would benefit what the Downtown Little Rock Partnership is calling the East Village (who knows, maybe a CBGB will rise up along Byrd Street!), and you can see the development that's going on in this neighborhood in this DLRP video on the partnership's Facebook page.

Keeping the AHTD from going ahead with a 10-lane interstate through the middle of a healing downtown is a good idea for the west side of I-30 as well. Here's a DLRP video on SOMA and here is one on the Tech Park. The clever videos, featuring Matt DeCample interviewing key figures in redevelopment, were presented at the DLRP annual luncheon this week.
