Oaklawn Park, the thoroughbred racetrack and casino in Hot Springs, has added an assistant general manager position and filled it with Wayne Smith, whose background includes extensive casino experience, including with such major casino operators as MGM Grand and Caesar's Entertainment. He's had experience as well with companies that also have racing operations, including Empire City Racing and Gaming in New York. Most recently, the release said, he worked with Penn National in Illinois.

When he went to Penn National in 2012, a news release then said he had been manager of the Empire City Casino at the Yonkers Raceway and then went to Penn National as manager of its Hollywood Casino Joliet. That news release credited him with a big increase in slot machine revenue and decrease in operating costs at the Empire casino.

In announcing Smith's hire, the Oaklawn release quoted president Charles Cella as saying the new job was "designed to better position the storied 112-year-old racing and gaming facility for the future."
