which is building a new full-service children's hospital in Springdale, will reorganize the nonprofit's governance structure to create a separate board for the Northwest hospital and a system board that will oversee ACH activities statewide outside of Little Rock and Northwest.
chair of the ACH board of directors, said the reorganization is part of "an aggressive effort to improve children's health statewide," not just by treating sick children but by increasing its preventive health programs. ACH, which has an injury prevention program of long-standing, will work with schools and clinics on such things as nutrition and safety measures, such as ATV safety and seat belts. Children's is increasing its staff for the statewide outreach as well as its Northwest hospital.
An earlier news release about the new hospital quoted Children's CEO Marcy Doderer
as saying ACH "is going to blanket the state with services that will improve access to pediatric care and improve the health of children throughout our state."
"There is no cookie-cutter approach to planning the delivery of excellent, comprehensive children's health care. Each area of the state will require a different approach. Based on conversations with physicians, business leaders and families, we know there are immediate needs right here that must be addressed."
The new hospital will be built on 37 acres on Interstate 49 donated to ACH by David
and Cathy George Evans, Gary
and Robin George,
and their families. It will include 24 inpatient beds, an emergency care department with 21 exam rooms, 30 clinical exam rooms, five ORs, imaging technology, diagnostic services and a helipad. Children's, with the help of fundraising by the Arkansas Children's Hospital Foundation, will spend $154 million over five years building the hospital.
