Carl Carter Jr. has posted on Facebook a thank-you note
THANKFUL: Carl Carter Jr. is shown hugging Deputy Prosecutor Barb Mariani at the trial of his mother's killer last week. Mariani was among those Carter thanked in a Facebook post.
to those responsible for the conviction of his mother Beverly Carter
's killer, Arron Lewis
, in Pulaski Circuit Court last week.
The thank-yous include one to an accomplice in the abduction and slaying, Lewis' estranged wife, Crystal Lowery,
who pleaded guilty and is serving a 30-year sentence in the crime. After thanking the judge, prosecutors, investigators and others, Carter said of Lowery:
Your actions in relation to the death of my mother were inexcusable and nothing short of evil. However, I thank you... and I applaud you for doing the right thing in court. I hope and pray that someone will tell your daughter how brave you were.
He said this about Lewis:
I've had 16 months to think about how I would address my precious mother's killer, Arron Lewis. I wondered: Do I curse? Do I shout? Do I name call? Do I condemn? Do I give a religious plea or message? Do I try to educate on the familial impact of this murder? ... I decided not to address Mr Lewis for many obvious reasons - none of which I care to acknowledge. However, I will address one thing that he said on the stand... "I am hopeless..." No, sir, you are not. There is still air in your lungs, you are not hopeless.
In a message to his late mother, he included this:
WE GOT JUSTICE FOR YOU MAMA!
Lewis was sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole for his conviction of capital murder and a consecutive life sentence for kidnapping.
