Little Italy incorporation hearing to resume Wednesday

Pulaski County Judge Barry Hyde says the hearing on the Little Italy community's incorporation hearing will resume at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Quorum Court meeting room.

Hyde recessed the hearing Dec. 16 because it ran long and he had a conflict.

The proposal would make a sprawling 8.8-square-mile largely rural area with several hundred residents an incorporated town with scant tax base beyond state turnback. The incorporation effort grew out of local opposition to land use controls imposed on the area, which is in the Lake Maumelle watershed. New county ordinances are designed to protect the lake, a main water supply for Central Arkansas. The incorporation, in addition to exempting the city area from the land use ordinance, would give it broad annexation powers to grow.
