CRIME SCENE: Near Highway 10 and Jerry Drive.
The Little Rock police report a man with a gun robbed the Bank of America branch at 14519 Cantrell Road (Highway 10) in far northwest Little Rock earlier this afternoon.
The police said one man, a bank employee, was wounded in the robbery, but wounds appeared to be "non life-threatening." The robber wore a black hoodie and a black and white mask. He escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash. Police were unsure how he fled the scene.
The police reported originally that the man was armed with a shotgun. But subsequent media reports indicated it might have been a rifle. One photograph showed a bullet hole in the side of the building.
It was the first bank robbery of the year, after 6 last year and 21 the year before.
UPDATE: A police spokesman said the bank employee was shot in the finger.
A report issued later in the evening said, however,m that the robber pointed a shotgun at one employee who was so unnerved that another employee opened the cash drawer for her. He received money and fired a shot that left Sammie Lewis Jr., 43, with a wound to his right shoulder. He was taken to a hospitall for treatment.
UPDATE II: Police arrested Tyrone Sanders, 16, and said he'd be charged as an adult in the robbery. They also released a surveillance photo of the crime.
