The Associated Press' Claudia Lauer has developed a horrifying story
— nearly 60 dogs were found shot on rural land in Searcy County last week. They'd apparently been fed hot dogs laced with sleeping pills and then shot. Several of 57 were still alive when found by humane officials but so seriously injured they had to be euthanized. Four dogs lived, one with a gunshot wound.
Who? Why? These questions remain unanswered. The investigation is in the hands of the local sheriff, who didn't return calls.
