Supreme Court upholds ban on big magazines

Gun nut heads are exploding all over Arkansas today on news that the U.S. Supreme Court has again signaled that the 2nd Amendment right to bear arms does not guarantee an unregulated right  to bear arms. From the LA Times:

In a victory for gun-control advocates, the Supreme Court on Monday rejected a 2nd Amendment challenge to laws that forbid the sale or possession of semiautomatic weapons that carry more than 10 rounds of ammunition.

The justices by a 7-2 vote refused to review rulings by judges in Chicago who upheld a ban on assault weapons in the city of Highland Park as a reasonable gun-control regulation.

No, such regulations are no guarantee that criminals won't find bigger magazines. Nor do background checks guarantee no sales will be made to people who misuse weapons. Nor does screening of immigrants guarantee that no one will get through who subsequently creates criminal acts. But regulation does lower the risk of bad events. And the Supreme Court has said — again — that it can be done under the Constitution.
