Giving Tuesday: It's the nonprofits' turn

This week, the Times will print its annual philanthropy issue, with features on worthy nonprofits and our annual Honor Roll of individuals and family foundations that have made major gifts to Arkansas institutions. We'll also include foundation asset and grant information gleaned from 990 tax forms. The Walton Family Foundation, of course, tops the list: Its tax return, released today, shows a fair market value of $2.7 billion at the end of 2014; it is the 28th largest family foundation in the country, according to the Foundation Center. The Walton Family Foundation made more than $40 million in grants in Arkansas in 2014.

But you don't have to be a Walton to be a philanthropist. Tomorrow, Tuesday, is Giving Tuesday. Surely after Black Friday and Cyber Monday you've got a bit left to give to, say, the Thea Foundation's #GivingTuesdayAR link. Thea, in turn, is providing all of tomorrow's donations to Arkansas Children's Hospital's Artist in Residence program. Or give to the Innovation Hub, the tech start-up nonprofit in North Little Rock. Or the Quapaw Quarter Association to help it preserve the Woodruff House. Or the Arkansas Foodbank, which is able to double your GivingTuesday contribution with a gift from the Bank of America. Or the Arkansas Arts Center. Or any nonprofit. You can find more easy links for online giving on Twitter, #GivingTuesdayAr.
