The Sheriff’s Office has been receiving phone calls from individuals advising that they have received a call from a “Capt. Jim Dixon” with the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office. “Capt. Dixon” tells the individual they have an outstanding warrant/fine that needs to be paid over the phone by debit or credit. THIS IS A SCAM. We do have a Capt. Jim Dixon, but he would never make a call of that nature. We do not collect fines (the court does). We do not take credit or debit cards for any of the services we offer. I repeat. THIS IS A SCAM.
There have been multiple variations of this scam over the last couple of years that have been sent out as alerts by PCSO. If anyone is ever in doubt they are actually being contacted by PCSO, please contact our main number at 501-340-6600. It is automated and has multiple office options. Our 24 hour Communications Center can be contacted at 501-340-6963 to make non-emergency reports for service or to get in touch with a Deputy.
The phone number used in this particular case is 501-209-2817. The scammer even has a voicemail set up to answer as the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office Warrants Division. As in the previous cases, the phone number is attached to a pay for use “throw away” phone that is difficult to track.
WE DO NOT EVER ASK ANYONE TO GO TO A STORE AND GET A GIFT CARD, GREEN DOT CARD, ETC. IF SOMEONE CALLS YOU WITH A REQUEST OF THIS NATURE, CONTACT YOUR LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY FOR ASSISTANCE
