KAIT 8 reports that Osceola will add the words "In God We Trust" to official city vehicles:

Councilman Tyler Dunegan presented the resolution to the council at their last meeting on Monday.

Dunegan said he created the resolution to show the city's morals and patriotism.

"Citizens are always saying morals and ethics need to be in city government, so this is a good way to remind the and elected officials of that," Dunegan said.

The resolution was voted on and passed with a 3-to-2 vote.

According to Dunegan all city vehicles, old and new, will have the quote added once a design is completed.

He said logistics like cost are still being discussed.

Well, there you go.

Heh:

"The majority of the comments is everyone is happy, they think it needs to be on there, we need to be patriotic and this is the time to do it and a great way to do it," Dunegan said.

The councilman said he has only received one negative comment so far, but he responded saying this is a nationally recognized motto.

The courts have generally ruled that the phrase is protected from Establishment Clause scrutiny because it's merely ceremonial and doesn't amount to religious exercise by the government (like a famous Supreme Court case on Christmas decorations on town property, the clause isn't subjected to scrutiny "chiefly because they have lost through rote repetition any significant religious content." Rote repetition indeed.
