Eureka Springs residents are hearing that a segment filmed in that city for Comedy Central's "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" is scheduled to air on tonight's show, barring anything arising in the news that might bump the segment from the lineup.

A Daily Show camera crew featuring reporter Jordan Klepper came to Eureka on June 24 and spent a full day shooting footage and talking to local residents about the city's Ordinance 2223. The ordinance would levy monetary fines on anyone found to have discriminated against LGBT people in housing, employment or public accommodations within the city limits. It was preserved by Eureka Springs voters during a May referendum by a 2-to-1 margin.

Klepper and Co. reportedly talked to several of those involved in the efforts surrounding Ordinance 2223, including Carroll County Justice of the Peace Lamont Richie-Roberson, who authored the ordinance, local artist Zeek Taylor (seen above, with Klepper), business owner Jayme Brandt (a devout Christian who was behind Ordinance 2223 from the beginning), and 2223 opponent and Great Passion Play operator Rev. Randall Christy.

Arkansas Times talked to several of those interviewed for a cover story we published in April, ahead of the vote on 2223.

If the Daily Show's past leanings are any measure, Eureka is about to get some great national press on the subject of their support for LGBT rights. Couldn't happen to a nicer place. Check local listings.
