Mike Huckabee embraces Donald Trump

Mike Huckabee, languishing at the rear of the crowded field for the Republican presidential nomination, has decided if he can't beat Donald Trump in the polls, he'll join him.

Appearing on Fox News — which gives its former talk show host frequent free platforms on a variety of shows — said Saturday:

Republican presidential candidate and former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee argued that “a lot of the things” Donald Trump is saying ” are things that, in many ways, I’ve been saying those for eight years, before he was a Republican” on Saturday’s “Fox & Friends” on the Fox News Channel.

Huckabee said that Trump has “struck a nerve with people,” and “I’ll be honest with you, a lot of the things that he’s saying, those are things that, in many ways, I’ve been saying those for eight years, before he was a Republican. Thing like talking about how China has cheated. Talking about how there is this Wall Street-to-Washington axis of power that grinds out jobs against Americans. I mean, these are themes that I’ve been talking about. But, let me say this, if you put as much air in my balloon, not just you, but if all the media, will pump the air in my balloon, as has been pumped into Donald Trump’s balloon, I’ll be leading the pack as well.”

Poor baby.

Republicans are complaining that a Trump appearance in Iowa was dominated today by his decision to bar the Des Moines Register from the event because its editorial page had said unkind things about him. Gee, I think Huckabee has played that game, too, and even better than Trump. At a campaign-opening event, he not only barred the Arkansas Times from press coverage, it instituted crowd control that excluded us from the general audience. Even Trump didn't go that far against the Des Moines newspaper. Its reporters joined the general crowd.

Re Huckabee: His press aide Tweeted today that he'd called President Obama's foreign policy the "most feckless" in history. Huck, yes, the Huckster knows feckless.
