The Arkansas Highway and Transporation Department
announces a big ceremony at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday to mark the "near" completion — after six years and $150 million — of a new intersection of Interstates 430 and 630
in west Little Rock. It's the so-called Big Rock Interchange
, shown above during the serious construction phase.
There will be a ribbon-cutting. They mayor will be on hand. The head of the local chamber of commerce will be on hand.
For a freeway interchange.
A few small pieces of work remain for final, final completion.
I used one of the new flyovers from I-430 south to I-630 east Saturday on one of my very rare trips from what used to be the middle of Little Rock to a movie in the Breckenridge shopping center. Worked fine. A decided improvement.
The interchange also will move more traffic more quickly through Little Rock and, particularly, to the western reaches of the city and to Saline County bedroom communities. What's not to like, right?
