Purple Hearts were awarded today
at the Arkansas Capitol to Quinton Ezeagwula, who was wounded, and the family of William Long of Conway, who was killed June 1, 2009, when Abdulhakim Muhammad fired on people outside a Little Rock military recruiting station.

The awards followed a law change to allow award of the medal to people killed or wounded in an attack on American soil by a foreign terrorist or aimed at people in the military. Muhammad, born Carlos Bledsoe in Memphis, is serving a life sentence. He targeted military members over American involvement in the Middle East.  A convert to Islam, he spent 16 months in Yemen before the attack.
