Attorney General Leslie Rutledge
released today an opinion rejecting the proposed wording of a constitutional amendment to shorten term limits
for state elected officials from the current 16 years (18 in some cases on account of vagaries tied to decennial Senate redistricting) to 10 years, with no more than six years in the House or eight years in the Senate.
The opinion said
the proposal, submitted by Fayetteville lawyer Brenda V. Taylor didn't adequately explain the impact on current law, among some other technical deficiencies. It presumably will be amended and resubmitted.
