Here’s your Monday open line. Earlier, we had some confusion over dueling redundant posts, so I’m transferring a note I made on an earlier item to this one:

*CREDIT WHERE IT’S DUE: Interesting debate in the left-liberal Twittersphere about how much credit to give South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley for calling for the removal of the Confederate flag from her state Capitol’s grounds. The Atlantic’s Ta-Nehisi Coates, who’s done as much as anyone in the past few days to push South Carolina leaders to remove the flag, praises the decision: “Props to Nikki Haley. It’s the right thing to do.”

Another Twitter user in response: “It was the right thing to do long ago. It shouldn’t have taken the murder of 9 innocent black people to make it happen.”

Coates: “I mean, tell that to LBJ. And Lincoln. And, like, everyone. Politicians moved when pushed.”
