Another round of poll results was released yesterday from Talk Business, Hendrix College and political consultant Impact Management Group, this time about a hypothetical Mike Huckabee – Hillary Clinton presidential matchup.

Hillary doesn’t get much love from Arkansas. Likely voters give her 38 percent positive marks, 53 percent negative. Huckabee gets 47 percent positive, 35 percent negative. Clinton loses by wide margins to both a generic Republican candidate and to Huckabee.

Q: If the 2016 general election were held today and Hillary Clinton was the Democratic presidential nominee, would you be more likely to vote for Hillary Clinton, the Republican nominee, or are you unsure?

Hillary Clinton 33%
The Republican nominee 50%
Don’t Know 17%

Q: [Huckabee against Hillary?]

Mike Huckabee 51%
Hillary Clinton 37%
Don’t Know 12%

Interestingly, the margin for Clinton is actually slightly closer with Huckabee than with the generic Republican. Interpret that how you will, but the bottom line is that Arkansas is probably going to stay red in 2016. Women, by the way, also favor Huckabee — although at slightly lower numbers.

The other bottom line: The odds are still extremely slim that Huckabee will take the Republican nomination, so the Arkie-on-Arkie contest is really just an exercise for the fun of it. No Bernie Sanders – Mike Huckabee hypotheticals, unfortunately.

The pollsters did ask voters about a U.S. Senate contest between Republican incumbent John Boozman and former Democratic governor Mike Beebe, because why not give Democrats something to fantasize about? Beebe would win, they conclude, although not by a huge margin: 45-37, with 18 percent undecided.
