Arkansas Supreme Court: Do as we say, not as we do

Quote from a brief opinion issued Thursday by the Arkansas Supreme Court:

The prompt resolution of all matters before a court is vital to the administration of justice.

The comment came in the matter of a self-filed technical motion in Columbia Circuit Court. The original petition was filed more than a year ago, but it was ruled moot in February because of a change in the judge in the case and reassigned. And the Supreme Court has again ruled the motion moot because of another judge change.

What's the point? Consistency.

The same-sex marriage case was decided last May. It was heard by the Arkansas Supreme Court on an "expedited" basis. It was completed and the justices voted in conference on how to decide the case Nov. 20, 2014. Still no ruling.

Supreme Court, heal thyself.
