Boxer Jermain Taylor
, in circuit court this morning for an initial appearance on a new battery charge, had little to say to reporters, KARK reports, except this: "I love my state."
Taylor is accused of knocking down a man in a rehab center where Taylor has been living while awaiting trial on earlier assault charges.
Though Taylor stayed silent, his mother lashed out at reporters for "scandalizing" her son at every opportunity. "Jermain is good and you're not going to scandalize his name," she said.
The judge sent Taylor back to the county jail. Taylor today also filed notice that he'll enter pleas of innocent by reason of mental disease or defect as a defense in the earlier cases. That could bring another mental evaluation.
