More turmoil connected to state Treasurer Dennis Milligan’s office.

KATV reports that David Singer, fired as an office staff member, has sued Milligan’s chief of staff, Jim Harris, for allegedly making defamatory comments about him. Singer had been a campaign worker for Milligan and even filed ethics complaints against Milligan’s Democratic opponent.

Singer was fired as outreach manager in late April, but Milligan’s office wouldn’t say why.

Singer’s suit was filed by Luther Sutter, a lawyer who recently won a $30,000 settlement in a suit against Milligan in behalf of an employee he fired while Saline County circuit clerk. He also represents another employee from Saline County with a pending suit over her firing.

Here’s the lawsuit.

Among other claims, it also says Singer learned Harris had made derogatory remarks about Singer’s wife, who’d died of cancer.

The lawsuit was accompanied by a set of questions for Harris, who told KATV he wasn’t aware of the lawsuit.

UPDATE: The treasurer issued a statement to KATV later in the day saying the allegations were untrue; that Harris had acted in an official capacity, and that the matter had been “referred” to the attorney general’s office.
