Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev has been sentenced to death, the New York Times reports.

Along with his brother, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, the 21-year-old Dzhokhar Tsarnaev perpetrated the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing, planting and setting off two pressure-cooker bombs near the crowded finish line of the race. The bombs killed three and injured hundreds, including many victims who lost legs and feet to the shrapnel filled devices.

Tamerlan Tsarnaev, who defense attorneys for the younger Tsarnaev had sought to portray as the mastermind of the crime, was killed by police during a manhunt following the bombing. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was wounded, but recovered. He was convicted by a federal jury in Massachusetts last month on 30 counts, 17 of which carried the death penalty.
