In Jonesboro, a group called the Arkansas State University Gay-Straight Alliance is asking supporters to turn out for a city council meeting today, Tuesday, May 5. The meeting begins at 4:45 p.m.

The Jonesboro City Council has been asked to adopt a policy similar to Little Rock's recently enacted civil rights ordinance, which forbids discrimination towards city employees on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity. (The Little Rock ordinance also extends to the employment practices of vendors doing business with the city.)

Jonesboro Mayor Harold Perrin has previously expressed a lack of interest in such an ordinance, saying that he believes adding a new protected class isn't needed.
