Dexter Suggs today defended the integrity of his doctoral dissertation and disputed Blue Hog Report’s allegation of plagiarism. Blue Hog found verbatim repetition of passages by Suggs found in earlier dissertations written by others. They were not credited in Suggs’ paper.

I thought a clearly illustrated example might help. From Blue Hog Report are screenshots of passages in Suggs’ 2009 dissertation, “The Impact of Middle School Principal Leadership on the Integration of Technology in Selected Middle Schools within the Indianapolis Public School District” and a similar passage in the 2005 dissertation of Georganne Scott, “Educator Perceptions of Principal Technology Leadership Competencies.”

Education Commissioner Johnny Key has said through a spokesman we must not jump to conclusions. Indeed. The question is whether he will jump to check it out at all.

PS — Blue Hog notes that Indiana Wesleyan, which awarded Suggs his doctorate, has guidance for students on plagiarism. Page 6 is instructive.
