The education of Jerry Cox continues

Tippi McCullough, president of the Arkansas Stonewall Democrats, continues an impossible task — educating the Family Council's Jerry Cox about discrimination. He doesn't want education. He wants to legally discriminate against gay people. That's why the Southern Poverty Law Center calls his outfit a hate group.

Nonetheless, McCullough keeps trying, with a comment on Cox's usual blather on a mild gay rights ordinance being considered by the Little Rock Board of Directors:

In today’s Democrat-Gazette, Mr. Jerry Cox speaks against a Little Rock City Ordinance being proposed. He says “there’s no proof anyone is being discriminated against in Little Rock when it comes to hiring or firing based on sexual orientation or gender.” Mr. Cox once again fails to realize that many are afraid of losing the jobs they have or of being passed over for potential jobs for being simply who they are created to be. Part of the ugliness of racism, bigotry and prejudice is that is often “unseen.” Many members of the LGBT community are afraid because by being open about their orientation or identity, they expose themselves to discrimination. We all know people can and do discriminate covertly as well as overtly. Since there are no protections for the LGBT community, they continue to live as fearful 2nd class citizens. However, if Mr. Cox in his blindness believes that all are equal in Arkansas, then surely he would not be offended by the passing of a city ordinance, an executive order, or of adding sexual orientation and gender identity to the Arkansas Civil Rights Act. It would hurt no one and help remove the doubt of discrimination in Arkansas.

Unless he WANTS discrimination in Arkansas. Which he does.
