Little Rock education ferment: Takeover protest, Common Core testing

A quick look at social media this morning indicates that people do care what goes on in the public schools. Examples:

* LITTLE ROCK SCHOOL TAKEOVER: Here's a Facebook page advertising a protest march next Wednesday*, April 1, between the state Education Department and the law office of state Education Board Chair Sam Ledbetter, who  was part of the 5-4 Little Rock School District takeover vote. They want their schools back.

* COMMON CORE TESTING: Here's a petition drive in support of Leslie Purdy, the English as second language coordinator at Hall High School. She faces school district review for informing students about their rights on taking the PARCC test, which covers the Common Core curriculum in assessing achievement.  Should students with limited understanding of English be made to take the test? My information is that there are other pressures on other teachers in the district related to PARCC testing. Benji Hardy is pursing the story further for us. More about that here, too.

*An earlier version of this post incorrectly said the protest march was scheduled for this Wednesday.
