The Senate won't meet and the House convenes at 10 a.m. with plans to get done in time to join the standing Friday lunch free hog slopping in Doe's Back Room.
It's the only freebie on the calendar today. It's a House scheduled event so it is open to the public. Just wander through the kitchen to the back. Burgers and more are on from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mighty good tamales. I bet they'll thrown on one of those saddle-blanket-sized sirloins if you ask nicely. The hosts can afford it. They are not identified today, but the speaker's office has listed them before as:
Arkansas Cable Telecommunications Assn.
Arkansas Manufactured Housing Assn.
Arkansas Oil Marketers Assn.
Arkansas Optometric Assn
I'm particularly interested in the Arkansas Beverage Association. It's striving mightily to begin eliminating the voter-approved soft drink tax that goes into the Medicaid trust fund. You'd think a $5 million lick for a fund match almost three-to-one by federal dollars would be hard to pass in a session where working poor not only got no tax cut but also saw unemployment benefits slashed.
Coke, no Pepsi with that Doe's cheeseburger.
