Big chill: Snow might hamper a light free feed day for legislature

Snow has closed state offices and schools in Pulaski County today. But the legislature is still scheduled to meet. Good thing it's Thursday. Free lobbyist feeds are typically not so frequent on Thursday, as lawmakers slide toward the weekend, particularly the Senate, which isn't scheduled to meet Friday.

But some events are listed today. Amendment 94 banned freebies for legislators, but they've continued at a feverish pace under the ruse — self-declared by the legislature itself without Ethics Commission sanction — that if you call something a scheduled event, the food and drink are not "gifts" to legislators. No formal programs need be offered. Daily cocktail parties and lunch spread have been on offer by some lobbyists.

Tpday's scheduled events follow. All are open to the public, but you might want to check to see if intrepid lobbyists plan to brave the elements.

LUNCH: 11:30-1, Capitol Hill Building, Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce.

DINNER: 6 p.m., Cajun's Wharf, for the House Aging, Children and Youth Committee by AT&T.
