A self-described student activist, Marquitta Hall, announces a march to the Capitol today to continue to publicize the case of Eugene Ellison, the 67-year-old man shot to death in his apartment in 2010 by off-duty Little Rock police officers working as security at his apartment complex.
The city has cleared officers Donna Lesher and Tabitha McCrillis in the death, but a lawsuit is pending. Ellison was the father of one current and one former Little Rock officer. Lesher is married to James Lesher, who was head of the homicide division that has investigated the case. Critics of the police handling of the investigation and its findings have highlighted inconsistencies in accounts of the shooting,
The march will begin at 10th and State and eventually end at Markham and Arch, Little Rock police headquarters. The group is also circulating a petition asking for a federal investigation of the Little Rock police.
