Arkansas
soon will have a law thanks to the legislature and compliant governor that will extend legal protection to stories like this:

Two Michigan parents said that a local doctor recently refused to see their six-day-old child because they are lesbians, the Detroit Free Press reported Wednesday.

Jami and Krista Contreras said they made an appointment with pediatrician Vesna Roi at the advice of their midwife, according to television station WJBK. But when they brought their daughter for an appointment with the pediatrician, they said they were met by another doctor who told them that Roi would not treat a baby with two mothers, according to the Free Press.

Roi “didn’t even come to the office that morning because she didn’t want to see us,” Jami Contreras told WJBK.

Remember, it’s not just St. Betty the Cake Maker that Republicans in the legislature and the governor are protecting from the queers who want a wedding cake. It is any employer, any innkeeper, any restaurant operator, any landlord. All may invoke religion to deny jobs, services or shelter because they disapprove of what they believe to be the sin of homosexuality.

By the way: Remember the “perception” argument that foes of the Fayetteville civil rights ordinance injected into their successful repeal campaign? How unfair, they said, to penalize someone based on a mere perception of sexual orientation.

But it makes perfect sense and it’s why federal civil rights laws include perception. If you discriminate because you perceive someone to be gay, it is not different than if they actually are gay. Under the new Arkansas gay-discrimination law, the cake baker or doctor or employer or landlord who denies service because they believed someone to be gay would be just as protected for invoking religion as if the person actually was gay, would they not?

How unfair.
