The Benton County Quorum Court unanimously approved a $1 million settlement last night to the family of a 52-year-old inmate who died in custody from undiagnosed pancreatic cancer after asking for medical help for months.

Faith Denise Whitcomb, 52, who had been held in the Benton County Jail on drug charges since 2011, died in May 2012. Her family alleged Whitcomb had repeatedly asked jailers to give her medication for agonizing pain over the course of the eight months leading up to her death. Jailers reportedly gave her Tylenol instead. A lawsuit was filed over Whitcomb's death in 2013.

KNWA in Fayetteville has more on the payout, and steps Benton County has taken to assure it doesn't happen again.
