Cuba si!
U.S. Sen. John Boozman has joined with a bipartisan list of sponsors to a bill to restrictions on U.S. citizens’ travel to Cuba.
“I really do believe that the way you change the world is through personal relationships. If we are serious about bringing real change to Cuba, we need to expose the Cuban people to our democratic ideals. That clearly hasn’t been accomplished with this travel ban in place. It’s outdated, inconsistent and lifting it would be a good first step toward overall reform,” Boozman said.
Amen.
I’ve sought current thinking from Arkansas’s other senator, Tom Cotton. He was sharply critical of President Obama after he announced a move toward normalization of relations with Cuba.
Funny. I’ve been talking this week with various people about attempting to arrange a visit under the already liberalized circumstances. It would be better still if you could just catch a plane and go. Inevitably, the changes that will be wrought in Cuba by a dose of American capitalism will change many of the things that make it now an appealing destination.
