  • MARK MARTIN LIVE? The secretary of state's office says boss Mark Martin will host the annual holiday programs of school choirs and others at the Capitol.

The secretary of state's office has announced that holiday programs at the Capitol from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 8-19 will be streamed on the web.

The news release said Secretary of State Mark Martin will "host" the programs. I've asked if that means Martin himself will be on hand and speak each day. If so, it will be unusual. He's only a sporadic visitor to the Capitol, according to many on his staff. He's reportedly told others the low pay of the office (about $54,000) has prompted him to devote time to his engineering business in Prairie Grove. He rarely grants press interviews or makes public appearances.

An office news release said, however, that "Secretary Martin looks forward to seeing children, parents and anyone else interested in coming; this event is free and open to the pubic."

The streamed programs can be found at the office's Facebook page.

The office said the streaming is being provided courtesy of the House of Representatives.

I wish the House could do the same with its companions in the state Senate.
