Gov. Mike Beebe
announced today his intention to grant 12 pardons, including one he'd disclosed earlier for his son Kyle.
There's a 30-day waiting period for public response before final action.
On the matter of his son, the announcement said:
Kyle H. Beebe (Searcy): Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Deliver
This notice is issued based on the date of conviction (2003 - White County), the fact that all terms of the applicant's sentence have been completed and there have been no further criminal-law violations. There are no law-enforcement objections to the application.
Beebe was found in possession of about two ounces of marijuana at his home when officers responded to a disturbance call. The governor's earlier announcement of his plans
was met with some criticism, but he's defended it as in keeping with hundreds of others he's granted during his tenure. Kyle Beebe, 34, is married, the father of two children and employed by a pipeline company.
PS — The governor still has no plans to move forward with clemency plans for Michael Jackson, a sexual offender who was a childhood friend of Kyle Beebe. An objection to his pardon was raised by local officials and an allegation was made about him in a child custody case.
