Federal Judge Leon Holmes
has set aside a jury's conviction of John Stacks
, a water bottler, for making false statements to get federal disaster loans.
Arkansas Business has the story
on Holmes' order that evidence was insufficient to convict Stacks on two counts and that he should have a new trial on five other counts. U.S. Attorney Chris Thyer
said his office might appeal that decision, Among other points, the judge said the government failed to prove that Mountain Pure
water bottling equipment that Stacks said was destroyed by a tornado that hit Damascus was not on the property that day.
